I was aimlessly wandering around Boots last week (I find myself doing this far too often) and noticed that Collection have brought out a new range of primers. I never used to be that fussed about Collection as a brand, but after trying some of their more recent eyeshadow and blush palettes, I’m starting to get quite excited about their new launches.
There are four primers in the range – two Reviving & Anti-Fatigue Illuminating primers (one with a yellow undertone and one with a pink undertone), an Illuminating & Reviving Eye Primer and the Mattifying Pore Minimiser. My skin is generally quite oily, so I steered clear of the “illuminating” primers, and picked up the mattifying one (which is also “Powered by Witch” – the skincare brand known for their anti-blemish products). I’m still faithful to my Urban Decay eye primer, but I might give the Collection one a go when I run out.
The primer is clear and gel-like, with an almost powdery finish and a similar texture to Benefit’s Porefessional. It was pretty easy to smooth on and work with, and definitely had a mattifying effect. My foundation also seemed to apply fairly well over the top, and didn’t cling to the primer too much. During the day, I noticed my nose becoming somewhat oily (which is sadly inevitable for me), but the rest of my makeup stayed put and only required minimal powdering.
Overall, I think this a relatively effective primer, and definitely something to check out if you have oily skin. I’m unsure about the effect of the “Powered by Witch” ingredients, but it may be worth a try if you suffer from blemishes too. At £4.99 for 25ml this is insanely good value, and something worth picking up if you’re looking to try a mattifying primer. Available from Boots, Superdrug and select Asda stores.
