I’m a really big fan of YouTube – especially beauty channels, which got me into this whole makeup obsession in the first place. One of my favourite vloggers, Tati (GlamLifeGuru) uploaded a review last week of these £2.50 Liquid Lipsticks from Essence. I believe that Essence is a German brand, although they do sell in the UK on their website and in Wilko. I’ve also heard good things about their Lash Princess Mascara, so watch this space for when I inevitably cave to the hype and get it.
The idea and price point of these definitely caught my attention, so I made sure to grab a couple while in town (while buying my boyfriend a bin, classic). I picked up the shades 02 Beauty Secret and 06 Make A Statement. The two are similar, although 06 is more berry-toned, and 02 is a lighter muted pink. They aren’t your typical liquid lipstick per se, but more of a glossy, high-coverage lacquer. Pigmentation-wise, these are incredible and the finish isn’t too sticky. The packaging isn’t bad either, with a soft doe-foot applicator and chic tube, and these don’t have that cheap plastic smell that some low-priced cosmetics come with.
Below I’ve included swatches of the two (don’t mind my bad lighting and hairy hand), and you can see how opaque and reflective they are. I genuinely agree with Tati’s verdict on these lipsticks, as the quality is unbelievable for the price and the longevity isn’t too bad either for a non-matte lip.
I’ll definitely be looking out for the other shades next time I’m picking up supplies – there are six in-store and nine online, with some brighter pinks and more nude tones. The Essence Liquid Lipsticks are available online here, and in-store at Wilko for £2.50 each.
